    1. Best Kvm Switch For Mac

HI there, did you ever find a good KVM that works from a mac to pc? I'm also trying to find the same thing. A lot of folks have KVM switch recommendations but none that testify it works from mac to pc (they do all seem to work from mac to mac or PC to PC type thing). A KVM switch makes me think of those archaic hardware A-B switches that once were used to hook up a parallel printer to two computers. KVM is actually short for 'keyboard, video and mouse', and is a still-relevant device to hook up one keyboard, mouse and monitor to multiple computers.

My first attempt to find a good KVM over IP solution has been a miserable failure. I ordered an Aten CS1716i. The problem is that we're primarily a Mac shop. And it uses Java for the interface which is not such a good idea it seems. It's virtually unusable form OS/X, and even from Windows it's pretty bad. Is there a better solution out there that works well from both Windows and OS/X?

Is it possible to get a single port IP KVM solution that does a really good job and just connect it to the monitor port of a plain old KVM that is rock solid? Check into the Dominion® KX II ' Dominion® KX II is Raritan's secure, enterprise-class KVM-over-IP switch that provides BIOS-level access and control of up to 64 multiplatform servers and serial-based devices. It raises the bar for digital KVM switches with standard features that maximize performance, security, reliability and productivity. Coupled with Raritan's new digital CIMs, Raritan's Dominion KXII is the most compatible KVM-over-IP switch supporting past (analog VGA), present (DVI and HDMI) and future (DisplayPort) video technology, in a single KVM-over-IP solution!

I'm in the market for a single port KVM over IP solution as well. What did you end up ordering? My problem is quite simple.

We have numerous branch locations with a single branch server in each location running ESXi. But there are times when I'd really like to get into the BIOS or perform an ESXi update. ESXi usually updates successfully, but not always. My solution was to create a 'branch kit' that includes a single port KVM-over-IP and a DVD with ESXi ISO.

I'd send this kit to each branch and have them connect the KVM and pop the DVD in the server before I perform any upgrades. If anything was to go wrong, I'd still have the DVD in the tray and I'd have BIOS-level access to the server. When the upgrade is complete, the kit could be shipped to the next branch. It's more of 'insurance' than anything. Am I paranoid?

Don't worry, we take FULL backups of the VM's before any upgrades. But finding reviews or even recommendations on a single port KVM-over-ethernet has proven to be quite difficult. In the end I just wish all these Dell servers were ordered with the management port. Oh that would make things so much easier!

I am another mildly unhappy user of two of the Aten CS1716i. We're a PC shop and it works OK for us, but the interface is a little clunky and can freeze on occasion. Still, I have not found anything else that comes close at any price. I tried a couple Lantronix Spiders but they were worthless. I couldn't get the Java interface to work correctly at all, and now 4 years later they are still collecting cobwebs (pun intended).

I want someone to come up with a non-Java IP KVM (I am OK with installing a client piece) that works well AND has USB and DVI-I (digital AND analog video). I would happily pay $2k - $10k for a 16-port version of this, and going by the KVM prices some of these companies charge I suspect it would be in the north end of this range. We have one Lantronix Spider DUO, and one Dell 2161DS. The Lantronix give you a single pc for $300-ish, as you all have mentioned.

The Dell 2161DS gives you up to 16, but you can only have 2 active (and one local, but not the same as any remote user is using). YOu buy the 2161, then you have to buy 1 'SIP' per computer you want to control. For the 2161: Max network connection is 100M, no gig-E option. And they don't make it any more. You have to use the Dell software to run it. But it works under windows and linux.

Paint or import high-resolution images, then non-destructively pixelize and apply other layer effects to turn it into amazing pixel art. Art software for mac Full walkthrough at.

Anthony321, Most KVM switches I've seen still require a dongle to be attached to the server's video output (VGA/DVI/HDMI/etc) and USB. The dongles are short and have an RJ45 jack on the other end which you then run the ethernet cable from back to the KVM switch. The connection between the server and the KVM is not running over the server's network connection, it's just using readily available media, i.e. CAT5 cable to connect the two. This way you can custom build 'KVM cables' to the lengths you need instead of having to buy pre-built custom KVM cables.
